For almost as long as we’ve had civilization, we’ve lost it. There are records going back hundreds of years of explorers discovering huge temples encrusted with jungle, or giant pits full of treasure that were once grand palaces. Why did people abandon these once-thriving cities, agricultural centers, and trade routes? Often, the answer is unknown. Here are ten great civilizations whose demise remains a mystery.

Does insulting people on the internet make you feel better?
I think the internet is a place where cowards can (anonymously) ask silly and childish questions and vent their anger and frustration without consequences. It’s sad that people say things online which they would never dare to say face to face.
The electric grid, as government and private experts describe it, is the glass jaw of American industry. If an adversary lands a knockout blow, they fear, it could black out vast areas of the continent for weeks; interrupt supplies of water, gasoline, diesel fuel and fresh food; shut down communications; and create disruptions of a scale that was only hinted at by Hurricane Sandy and the attacks of Sept. 11.
This is why thousands of utility workers, business executives, National Guard officers, F.B.I. anti-terrorism experts and officials from government agencies in the United States, Canada and Mexico are preparing for an emergency drill today (November 13th), and tomorrow (November 14th) that will simulate physical attacks and cyber attacks that could take down large sections of the power grid.

Here are eight major ways Thor and his world differ between the comics and the myths.
The massive and growing gulf between rich and poor is one of the direst challenges facing the U.S. economy.
Highlighting this gap, more than half of U.S. wage earners made less than $30,000 last year, according to an analysis released by the Social Security Administration on Tuesday. That’s not far above the $27,010 that marked the federal poverty line for a family of five in 2012.
Some people can “see” their own hands waving in front of their faces while in total darkness. It shouldn’t be possible, but a quirk of their senses allows these people to perceive movement without using their eyes.
